GBR - Environmental masks (reef areas) (AIMS)

This dataset contains a set of masks that can be used to clip data to a given environmental domain (such as keeping reef areas, while excluding land and inter-reef regions). When applied, these masks can be used to ensure that interpolation is not applied to areas where it does not make sense.
These masks were designed to be used during the interpolation of point data into gridded maps, to exclude areas where the interpolation data is very likely to be invalid. They were also designed to allow generated maps to be good at showing the overall picture for large regions, such as the entire Great Barrier Reef (GBR). For this reason the masks use large buffering and smoothing around the domain regions to ensure that generated interpolated maps are not cluttered when viewed over their entire extent.
This dataset currently contains only one mask (AIMS_domain_masks-reefs) that is useful for keeping regions around reefs while excluding the mainland and islands.
