SST data were derived from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Terra and Aqua satellites (modis.gsfc.nasa.gov). Data were acquired directly from the NASA site (oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov). Daily and monthly mean SST files have been generated at one kilometre spatial resolution for the GBR region from 10.0°S to 30.0°S and 142.0°E to 158.0°E for the period July 2000 to March 2010, and sub-regions thereof. Both night-time data only, and merged daytime and night-time data products have been generated. Monthly SST climatologies and longterm mean SST climatalogies have been generated for the ten-year period.
